This pot came from the estate of a Limoges collector, whose items were mainly plates and teapots. I think this is a demitasse or chocolate pot, in shape it seems more so than a tea pot in design.
But you could use it for any hot beverage and it will bring a lot of compliments. I suspect it was displayed and not used as it is in such nice condition. The style is an 1890s Art Nouveau look to me--with a hint of the Art Deco to come, with stylized flowers and geometric pattern indicative of the era. Truly lovely color scheme of palest blue, violet and a LOT of gold. With a raised pattern along base and top, gilt handled lid, the design is gorgeous and there are no breaks or hairlines and very minimal if any gold wear. It's not only a stunner but is in PERFECT condition and was obviously part of a prized collection. The T & V green mark on bottom is from the highly collected Tressemann & Vogt Limoges, made in France. The Patent hallmark dated December 22, 1896 is so nice for identifying. This hand painted antique beauty is a stunner-- use it or display it in your china cabinet. The item "RARE Antique T&V Venice LIMOGES Pat. 1896 Porcelain Art Nouveau Coffee/Choc Pot" is in sale since Monday, February 24, 2014.
